Celebrating 15 Years of Real-Time Water Quality Innovation in Australia

In 2010, TracWater built its first prototype water quality monitoring robot in Australia with a then-radical conviction: that cloud-connected, autonomous sensors could do what laboratories and SCADA systems could not — deliver continuous, 24/7 intelligence about what was happening inside a water distribution network, right now, not yesterday.


Fifteen years later, that conviction has been vindicated by billions of measurements, a peer-reviewed publication record, national regulatory influence, and a fleet of robots that have never stopped running.


TracWater’s flagship deployment — the 24/7 citywide water quality monitoring programme for Gold Coast City — operates continuously, supported by a fleet of thirty robotic water quality analyser stations. These units manage water quality measurements remotely across 3,560 kilometres of pipeline, generating at least 4,000 measurements per robot every day.

TracWater's Co-Founder and Director is Philip Hubble — a figure of remarkable global significance. Helping to build and scale one of the world's most successful technology companies during the computer revolution. Phil was involved in Dell’s pioneering of the just-in-time and build-to-order manufacturing model — the approach that transformed how technology products are designed, built, and delivered worldwide.


Standing alongside him is Co-Founder and Managing Director Len McKelvey — the named inventor on TracWater's patents across more than 60 countries. McKelvey is a practitioner-inventor who has not only conceived and patented breakthrough technology but has personally led its deployment into live municipal networks across more than 15 years.


"TracWater began cloud operations in 2009 — just two years after the first iPhone launched — with the conviction that continuous, cloud-connected water quality monitoring was not only possible but essential," says McKelvey. "The industry was sceptical. We had hardware platforms that worked. The data proved our case."

APAC Utilities Business Review (ISSN 2837-0155) Top Wireless Water Quality Monitoring Solution in APAC 2025 Certificate awarded to TracWater.

TracWater enters its second decade with patents granted or underway in more than 60 countries. In 2025, TracWater was independently awarded the APAC Top Wireless Water Quality Monitoring Solution. In October 2026, the Australian Government selected TracWater for the Australia-India Water Mission.


The next chapter begins now — with TracWater Australia building on its established industry position and TracWater India deploying its first water quality robots in May 2026.
